Thoughts On Buying Art
I thought I would share a few thoughts on buying art. Buy what you like. First, like it. Then buy it. All the money I make selling art I use to buy new supplies and to buy other peoples artwork. When I buy art it makes me happy to know that there is a person on the other end of the artwork. Someone, someone specific with a name, did the work. Because their work is being appreciated and bought they will do more. So the result of purchasing artwork is that you have something you love looking at, and an artist is encouraged to make more things that you also would think are beautiful. Once, at a show of mine, someone had the gall to ask me what possibly made a piece worth three hundred dollars. I replied rather defensively about skill, time, the cost of framing, uniqueness and the like. The better answer is that there are few things at any price that can give as much pleasure; to you, the artist, and all the people who will come after and view the works of people you supported.
